We’re looking for a top-performing Data Engineer Co-op to join this team, which serves as the backbone for all our business units! Reporting to the Lead Data Engineer, you will be a key contributor to high-impact projects, helping to enable the use of data to solve both long-term and immediate business problems. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with modern data stacks and assist in critical infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, a passion for data, and a background in engineering. You will get the opportunity to work closely with senior engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to learn different facets of the company while providing valuable technical support. Although headquartered in downtown Toronto, Ratehub is a remote-first company and we are open to remote candidates for this co-op term. <h2 style="line-height:1.3800000000000001;margin-left:24px;text-indent:-18pt;background-color:#ffffff;margin-top:24px;padding:0pt 0pt 4pt 18pt;">YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES</h2><ul><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Support the Migration: Assist the engineering team in the migration of data assets from Amazon Redshift to Snowflake, ensuring data integrity and performance.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Infrastructure Provisioning: Work closely with lead engineers to provision and configure the Insurance BU data infrastructure, gaining hands-on experience with cloud architecture.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Pipeline Development: Build and maintain data pipelines using Airflow and dbt to handle ongoing ad-hoc requests and automate financial data workflows.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Data Transformation: Help create clean, modular, and maintainable code by refactoring complex queries into streamlined transformation layers.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with both engineering and business teams to understand requirements and deliver data solutions that provide immediate value.</li></ul><h2 style="line-height:1.3800000000000001;margin-left:24px;text-indent:-18pt;background-color:#ffffff;padding:6pt 0pt 4pt 18pt;">YOUR QUALIFICATIONS</h2><h3 style="line-height:1.3800000000000001;margin-left:24px;text-indent:-18pt;background-color:#ffffff;padding:10pt 0pt 4pt 18pt;">Technical Qualifications</h3><ul><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Currently enrolled in a post-secondary co-op program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Strong foundational knowledge of SQL and Python.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Academic or project experience with dbt, Airflow, or Snowflake is highly preferred.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Exposure to cloud environments (AWS or GCP) and an understanding of data warehousing concepts.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Familiarity with DevOps practices or NoSQL databases (Mongo DB) is considered a definite asset.</li></ul><h3 style="line-height:1.3800000000000001;margin-left:24px;text-indent:-18pt;background-color:#ffffff;padding:2pt 0pt 4pt 18pt;">Core Competencies</h3><ul><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Simplicity First: You prefer simple, maintainable solutions over over-engineered abstractions.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Effective Communicator: You are comfortable asking questions and providing/receiving candid feedback to ensure project success.</li><li style="list-style-type:disc;">Incremental Delivery: You understand the value of getting a working version into production quickly and iterating based on feedback.</li></ul>Culture Fit:<ul><li style="list-style-type:disc;">No Ego: No task is too big or small.
