<p>This is a remote position.</p> <p><b>English to Spanish - <u>Legal </u>Translator, Editor, and/or Transcriber (Remote) </b> <br></p> <p> <br></p> <p><b>* Status: Freelance Contractor </b> <br></p> <p><b>* Requirements: U.S. Citizenship </b> <br> <br> Global Language Strategies, a business headquartered in the Washington, D.C. metro region, is currently seeking a professional freelance linguist to translate, edit, and/or transcribe <u>legal documents</u> from English to Spanish. This is a remote position, as needed. <br> <br> <b> Job Duties:</b></p> <p><br>1. Provide accurate translation, editing of documents, and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from <b>English to Spanish or bidirectional.</b></p> <p><br>2. Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms.</p> <p><br>3. Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language.</p> <p><br>4. Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale. </p> <p><br>5. Translate, edit, and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards.</p> <p><br>6. Use domain-specific terminology. </p> <p><br>7. Review and certify other translators’ work quality, as needed.</p> <p><br>8. Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.</p> <p><br>9. Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as <b> Trados Studio.</b></p> <br><br> <br> <h3>Requirements</h3> <p>1. A U.S. citizen willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.<br></p> <p> <br></p> <p>2. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. <br></p> <p><br>3. At least 3 years of experience in <u>legal documentation</u>, translating, and/or editing between English and a foreign language.</p> <p><br>4. At least 3 years of experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription.</p> <p><br>5. Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the target foreign language(s).</p> <p><br>6. Proficient in Microsoft Office.</p> <p><br>7. Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as Trados.</p> <p><br></p> <p>***Preferred Qualifications: **ATA, NAJIT, or other relevant professional certification. <br></p> <br> <br>
