Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance and repair tasks at the City’s airport. Responsibilities include leading small crews, completing special projects, and performing related duties as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on airfield lighting, signs, and navigational aids; troubleshoot and order parts as needed.
  • Maintain electronic gates and inspect generators for navigational aids, airport lighting, the air traffic control tower, main administration building, and fire pump house system.
  • Lead small work crews, providing technical guidance on projects.
  • Conduct airfield pavement maintenance, including asphalt and concrete repair, painting, crack and joint sealing, marking, and rubber removal.
  • Perform grading and tractor work, including compacting, mowing, erosion control, weed abatement, and herbicide application.
  • Conduct sweeping, traffic control, and delineation on airfields.
  • Maintain buildings including light bulb replacement, minor plumbing, painting, wall and stucco repairs, carpentry, and special projects.
  • Escort vendors and contractors and ensure airport security. 
  • Respond to emergencies as required.
  • Perform custodial duties such as dusting, mopping, window cleaning, and related tasks. 
  • Safely operate City power tools, vehicles, and equipment.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of relevant maintenance experience in areas such as traffic control, facilities, grounds, or street operations.
License(s)/Certifications:
  • Must possess a valid California Class “C” driver’s license at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment with the City of Victorville.
  • Ability to obtain California Class “A” or “B” license within one year of employment.
  • Maintain airport security clearance and driving privileges.
Knowledge of:
  • Airport rules, regulations, and security procedures.
  • Principles and practices of airport maintenance, repair, and facility construction.
  • Airfield lighting, fixtures, signs, and regulators.
  • Electrical theory and computer touch-screen technology.
  • Air Traffic Control Tower communications.
  • Journeyman-level plumbing, drywall, and general construction.
  • Employee supervision and project management.
Skills and Ability to:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to machinery, extreme weather, excessive noise, fumes, grease, dust, vibrations, odors, and wildlife. Tasks may require climbing ladders, working in trenches or confined spaces, standing or walking for long periods, bending, stooping, and lifting to 100 pounds. Incumbents must have normal vision and hearing (with or without correction) and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Emergency response outside regular hours, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and variable shifts, may be required.
