Metal Toad is a fully remote company, offering all team members the ability to work from home. For this opportunity, the selected candidate must be available to work Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Time (PST). Although Metal Toad is a remote company, we are currently seeking contractors residing in Brazil for this position. Compensation will be made in Brazilian Reais (R$), in accordance with the local currency of the country where the position is located. Job Description The mission for this role is to lead a team of software engineers to implement high-quality technology solutions. Responsibilities OUTCOMES <ul> <li> Ensure Engineering Profitability: Manage resource allocation through accurate estimation, meet utilization targets, and ensure strict adherence to time logging standards.</li> <li>Ensure High Engineering Performance: Guarantee project success through proactive unblocking, rapid communication, and meeting all security and quality standards.</li> <li>Maintain Professional Standards: Ensure ongoing compliance with role certification standards and practice effective delegation.</li> <li>Recruit & Retain Great Talent: Ensure 90%+ A-player acquisition and maintain high retention of engineering talent.</li> </ul> ACTIVITIES <ul> <li>Estimation & Allocation: Create accurate estimates for every ticket to enable proper resource allocation.</li> <li>Utilization & Logging: Ensure the team (including self) meets utilization targets and adheres to time logging standards.</li> <li>Unblocking & Escalation: Reduce ticket overage by unblocking engineering team members and leveling technical issues up to the Head of Engineering.</li> <li>Reporting: Report ticket estimate overages to the Project Manager and Head of Engineering ASAP to ensure project success.</li> <li>Onboarding & Certification: Maintain updated milestones and dates in the Certification Planning spreadsheet for 100% of team members.</li> <li>Quality Control: Adhere to quality and security standards to ensure zero requirements defects on projects.</li> <li>Timeline Management: Support work-in-progress cycle times of < 2 days, code reviews within 4 business hours, and QA within 2 days.</li> <li>Team Leadership: Delegate tasks using the 5 Levels of Leadership (p. 215) and implement Manager Tools best practices for retention.</li> <li>Hiring: Participate in the hiring process using the WHO method to acquire A-player talent. </li> </ul> QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED <ul> <li>Agree with our <a href="https://www.metaltoad.com/blog/metal-toad-media-corporate-values" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Corporate Values Statement</a>.</li> <li>Believes in the company's mission: to help people.</li> <li>Believes in the principles of open source.</li> <li>Advanced to fluent English communication skills are essential for this role.</li> <li>Proven ability to lead a team of software engineers.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience in technical estimation and resource allocation.</li> <li>Expertise in maintaining engineering quality and security standards.</li> <li>Proven ability to create quality software - Zero major defects and/or bugs released</li> <li>Familiarity with the WHO method for hiring and talent acquisition.</li> <li>Knowledge of Manager Tools best practices for team retention.</li> <li>Ability to implement delegation according to the 5 Levels of Leadership.</li> <li>Commitment to ongoing role certification and professional development.</li> <li>Ability to maintain rapid communication and meet strict cycle-time targets.</li> </ul> Please note that Metal Toad will never ask for payment or financial information during the hiring process.
